The first festival

Herstory of the first Womens Music Festival 1994
written by Gobi and Claudia

The story of the Womens Music Festival starts in 1993 with an idea to create a music event in nature which lasts several days where musicians have space to perform under high professional conditions but also to create a space for women living their days and nights in nature, dancing, singing and celebrating themselves in diversity.

In order to implement this idea one had to think about a functioning infrastructure in nature which had to be approved and converted.

It really comes true at the end of July 1994.

The life of the First Womens Music Festival starts with a huge tent, a professional PA-crew from Berlin + a professional sound system, extraordinary musician support, furthermore an idyllic campsite + culinary treats on site and it all appeals to the mainly lesbian musicians, creative co-workers and moderators as well as many interested festival visitors. They all have a common wish at the end more, more, more.

Apart from the great success the first Womens Music Festival was accompanied by a loss of 35.000 DM which were balanced on a private basis by the two organisers.

A new team of women was able to overtake a Womens Music Festival free of debts basicly structured. The two organisers of the first Womens Music Festival were give free tickets for life time which they accepted in thanks.
